My approach to counseling

I believe counseling should be collaborative.

You really are the expert on your life, and it’s my job to listen intently to your experience and tailor therapy to your individual needs.

This truly is a “working together” kind of arrangement.

The theories that most inform the way I work include:

  • EMDR Therapy – which considers the way trauma gets stuck in our brains and bodies. You can read more about EMDR on my services page.

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which brings insight into how our thoughts impact our feelings and actions

  • Solutions-focused, which is optimistic and strengths-based

  • Adlerian, which acknowledges the importance of childhood experiences in shaping our beliefs about ourselves and the world we live in and looks at how those beliefs impact our present functioning and desired future

  • Family systems, which considers the contexts we function in, from childhood to current family to culture

  • Internal Family Systems and Ego States, which explores memory networks (or “parts of self”) within us that are sometimes at odds with each other and can prevent us from living the way we want to live.
